Culture & Ecology

The structure that I designed on the island creates tangible connections between the land, sky, water, culture and built environment. Acknowledging and respecting the indigenous history of the Beeloo people, the original landowners, on the island, was an integral part of the design. They believe the land gives them a sense of identity and closeness, that everything existing on the land is connected to the sky and that water is the core of all life.

The supports of the bridge minimise disturbance to the earth, fauna, flora and water. The bridge is designed to be a viewing platform, with the viewports at different heights, catering to all ages and abilities and highlighting outlooks on the island and beyond.
